Back in Auckland following their 2023 sellout run, alt-metal pioneers Helmet brought their signature blend of precision and punishment to a packed room that felt equal parts reverent and restless. Decades on from Meantime, their sound hasn’t softened; if anything, it’s become more exacting, every riff landing with the kind of mechanical force that first set them apart.

Joining Helmet were Auckland locals New Way Home, whose dense, atmospheric heaviness proved a fitting counterpoint. Born out of the early 2000s hardcore scene, they kicked things off early with their unique blend of groove metal tinged with progressive undertones, setting the scene and priming the Sunday night crowd for what was yet to come.
