These Four Walls return home for one-off show at Big Fan

These Four Walls made their long-awaited return to the Auckland stage last night at Big Fan, for an all-ages show. Joining them was local acts Cry Wolf and W0MAN.

Having relocated from New Zealand to Australia more than a decade ago, each time These Four Walls return to Aotearoa is a chance for a reunion of friends, family, and fans. Auckland’s Big Fan was clearly the place to be last night, as the band brought their explosive and energetic live show back home, treating those present to both some of their classic tracks, as well as new material being released this year.

Kicking things off were local legends W0MAN, who’s energetic, rockabilly-tinged punk performance started things off on a high note, before Cry Wolf took to the stage off the back of their recent single releases Player One and Burn. A cover of Linkin Park’s Faint had the audience getting amongst it, as one punter joined the band on stage for the track.

With These Four Walls about to take the stage, the audience seemed to grow in size, as fans crowded towards the front, eager to get up close for the incredible display of kiwi rock that was to come and many of whom were wearing their newly-acquired band tees. Things started with a roar as the band came on and played an unrelenting set. Despite having started this more than 20 years ago, they show no sign of slowing down, though did allude to a few sore knees to come in the morning. There was no encore to speak of, bar the short time it took for lead singer Steve Gibb to change into a Mighty Ducks jersey, returning to chants of “Quack! Quack! Quack!”. The band instead maximised their performance time, concluding the show with a crowd selfie before jumping down to mingle with friends, family, and fans alike.
