Released Friday 18 September via Mom + Pop Music, Fell Asleep in the Sun is the debut full-length from Los Angeles duo After, blending grungy guitars, trip-hop, drum & bass, shoegaze and sharply written pop. Across 13 tracks, Justine Dorsey and Graham Epstein draw on the sounds and imagery of the early 2000s, filtering mall soundtracks, internet nostalgia and cultural memory through a distinctly modern lens.
Rather than simply recreating the past, Fell Asleep in the Sun explores the way memory shifts, the quiet grief of getting older and the feeling of watching parts of your life disappear while you’re still living it. The album has already picked up attention from Rolling Stone, The Cut and Interview Magazine, with Rolling Stone describing After as feeling “like a memory you can’t quite place.”
The duo met on Hinge in 2023, quickly discovering that while romance wasn’t on the cards, music was. Since then, they’ve developed a distinctive creative world built around songwriting, immersive imagery and a refusal to sit neatly in one genre.
After’s momentum has continued to build internationally, with their current North American headline tour including sold-out shows in New York, Los Angeles, Austin and Toronto, alongside arena dates supporting The Neighbourhood. Their music has also featured in Apple advertising campaigns, a Gap campaign, and Zane Lowe’s 26 for ‘26 playlist.
Fresh from the release of Fell Asleep in the Sun, After will bring the album to Aotearoa for the first time this summer, with one Auckland headline show at The Tuning Fork.
