It’s been a few years since James last visited New Zealand, so for the many fans in attendance, the show was long overdue, with the recognisable daisy logo spotted on tshirts around the Civic in the leadup to the show.

Opening the evening was local artist Koen Alder, who warmed the slowly filling theatre up with an acoustic set of both original songs and covers, and some very impressive bird whistles as he called for the audience to get involved and fill the theatre with the sound of birds.

As a band, James’ band members filled the theatre stage, with nine band members, two drum kits, keyboards, rows of guitars, and several microphone stands occupying nearly every available space. Tim Booth’s engimatic vocals, complemented by the addition of Chloe Alper, had the crowd on their feet early. Despite this being a theatre venue, there was no way that the fans were going to stay seated, as everyone was eager to dance and enjoy themselves.

Performing tracks from their iconic album ‘Laid’, as well as other much loved James classics from their extensive back catalogue, an incredible journey which spans five decades, the band seemed to be at the top of their game, showing no signs of slowing down.
